THE BASIC STUFF
WHAT IS AERWAVE?
Aerwave is a platform for delivering you with your private network. Rather than joining a shared network (think: “Joes_Coffeeshop_WiFi”), where you and everyone around you are sharing the network together, including the network password, Aerwave separates each user or team into private networks, providing you with drastically increased security and privacy. What’s best is that your network is available to you seamlessly anywhere that Aerwave is located, meaning no more asking, “what’s the Wi-Fi password?” Just show up and you’re automatically connected to your private network.
HOW DOES AERWAVE WORK?
We won’t bog you down with too many details here but essentially, we’re taking the existing Wi-Fi and Ethernet technology and adding in some automation, cloud computing, virtualization, and integration. Nice buzz words, right? What we’re doing is taking the manual aspects of networks and automating them. Then we’re bringing all of it to the cloud.
HOW DOES THIS COMPARE TO THE REGULAR Wi-Fi?
The short answer is that it’s still Wi-Fi, it’s just vastly more secure. Aerwave isn’t a new technology, it’s simply a new application of an existing technology. While it would be great to invent a Wi-Fi replacement, there are something like seven billion Wi-Fi devices in the world today and that number isn’t getting any smaller. So, replacing all of those devices with some new technology isn’t an easy task (and it’s definitely not something that any one company can do). What we can do is improve the Wi-Fi ecosystem in order to solve its inherent flaws. Enter Aerwave.
I OWN/RUN A LOCATION THAT MIGHT BE A GOOD PARTNER FOR AERWAVE, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
First of all, thank you for wanting to partner with Aerwave! The best way to learn more about a partnership with Aerwave is to go to one of the Partners pages on our website and submit your email. We will typically get in touch with you within 24-48 hours after you submit your email and we will provide some more details on what it means to partner with us. We can typically get a new partner up and running with Aerwave in as little as a few days after their first submission on our website
WHAT TYPES OF LOCATIONS ARE BEST SUITED FOR AERWAVE?
While we could (and probably will) argue that Aerwave is suited for any Wi-Fi connection, we believe any shared wireless location is a prime candidate for Aerwave today. We think of shared wireless locations as coworking spaces, coffee shops, hotels, airports, multi-tenant commercial and residential, among others. The reason we think of these places as prime candidates is because users gather here to connect to the Internet, but typically, they don’t all know each other. Couple that with typically “open” networks or shared passwords and you’ve got some serious security and privacy issues that can come up. We think that Aerwave can help solve those issues.
WHY SHOULD I PARTNER WITH AERWAVE AND NOT JUST OFFER SOMETHING LIKE THIS MYSELF?
We get this question a lot, actually, and it’s a good one. The short answer is that if you’re reading this FAQ, chances are that you’re not in the business of providing Wi-Fi to users. Rather, you’re probably providing them some sort of experience (a place to work, a place to stay, etc.). While Wi-Fi has become an integral part of today’s on-the-go experience, you should dedicate your time to enhancing your user’s experience through unique offerings, not monitoring your network. We also like to answer this question by saying that while you could certainly create some wireless privacy at your location, it’s always going to be stuck in your location. Our goal is for users to find their network wherever they go. Which is why we focus on our location partnerships. So, go ahead and top off that person’s coffee and leave the wireless to us.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST FOR ME TO PROVIDE AERWAVE AT MY LOCATION?
Nothing! $0.00 to be exact. As of today, we offer free partnerships to all of our locations. Now of course, there are some additional partnership options or ancillary services that could increase that bill above zero dollars, but we do partner with most locations completely free of charge. HOW DO I BECOME AN AERWAVE PARTNER?

We will be in contact with you usually between 24 and 48 hours after your submission and will answer any questions you may have about a partnership. Once we sign an agreement, we’ll officially be partners!

THE (KIND OF) TECHNICAL STUFF
CAN I USE MY EXISTING SYSTEM TO PROVIDE AERWAVE TO THE PEOPLE AT MY LOCATION?
Today, no. In the next few months, probably. Aerwave is compatible with hundreds of routers and Access Points, however, in order to ensure a secure rollout, we are currently supplying all of our locations with new Aerwave hardware. In the near future, we will roll out a downloadable version of our system with all of the necessary security checks, to make Aerwave available at the flip of a switch. ARE THERE MINMUM REQUIREMENTS THAT I MUST HAVE IN ORDER TO PARTNER WITH AERWAVE?
Our guess is that you probably already have everything you’ll need to partner with us but we’ll go over the requirements here: you need a live Internet connection, which you get from a third-party Internet Service Provider (“ISP”) and at least one available Ethernet connection. Aerwave hardware only requires Alternating Current (“AC”) power and an Ethernet connection (with Internet) to work but this is probably an oversimplification. Most locations have switches, firewalls, routers, wires, and more. While we don’t currently handle your wired infrastructure, Aerwave is designed to be a supplement or replacement for your existing Access Points, meaning that you more than likely can leave your existing set up the way it is and then just plug Aerwave into power and Ethernet and you’re good to go.
WHAT HARDWARE DOES AERWAVE PROVIDE? WHAT DO I NEED TO PROVIDE?
This question is probably best answered above in the “minimum requirements” question, but the simple answer is that Aerwave hardware requires you to provide AC power, an Ethernet connection, and a live Internet connection. Aerwave will send you the following hardware: Access Point, Ethernet cord, Power-over-Ethernet injector, and mounting screws (for the Access Point).
WHERE DO MY RESPONSIBILITIES BEGIN/END? WHERE DOES AERWAVE'S RESPONSIBILITIES BEGIN/END?
We’ll provide some general guidance here but this is not meant to supersede your signed partnership agreement with Aerwave. The information here is not intended to provide any representations or warranties, express or implied, outside of your partnership agreement. For questions regarding your partnership agreement, please contact us at [email protected]. The general response: Aerwave’s service is limited to the “back of the Access Point”. What we mean by that is that we will handle all services related to the hardware, firmware, and software pertaining to the delivery of private wireless networks inside of any of Aerwave’s partner locations. If there are any malfunctions related to the Access Point, delivery of wireless networks, Aerwave servers, etc., that responsibility sits with Aerwave. If there are any malfunctions related to hardware, firmware, or software of the Internet access, other network devices, or network infrastructure (e.g. ISP relationships, switches, peripheral devices, wires, etc.), that responsibility sits with the partner location.
THE HOW-TO STUFF
WE ARE HAVING ISSUES RECEIVING PRIVATE NETWORKS? WHAT DO I DO?
There are three likely reasons why Aerwave’s private networks might not be working: 1) your Internet connection is down. In this case, please contact your ISP or IT department to resolve connectivity issues. 2) There is a hardware or software issue with your Aerwave AP. In this case, please restart your Aerwave AP by removing power to the device for approximately 10 seconds. If this does not fix the issue, please contact us immediately at [email protected] to have us try to resolve the issue or to send you replacement hardware. 3) There is an issue with Aerwave’s server. This instance is extremely rare, as we aim for 99.99%+ uptime, however, there may be scheduled outages to update the systems on our end. If that is the case, we will notify you and all Aerwave users that might be affected ahead of the scheduled outage. If you believe there is some issue that is not resolved by #1 or #2, please contact us immediately at [email protected].
WHAT HAPPENS IF I THINK THERE IS A WIRELESS SECURITY ISSUE AT MY LOCATION?
If you believe there are any immediate wireless security issues, we recommend that you shut off your wireless offering (including Aerwave Access Points). Please contact us at [email protected] and we will try to respond immediately to assess the situation and rectify any security issues, if at all feasible.
THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE AERWAVE HARDWARE (IT'S BROKEN/MISPLACED). WHAT DO I DO? AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST?
Please consult your partnership agreement for the exact terms specifying hardware replacement. However, in general, Aerwave will cover all costs related to malfunctioning Aerwave hardware, if it can be determined that the malfunction is related to the hardware, firmware, or software of the device. If the device has been damaged or is malfunctioning due to any force outside of the scope of Aerwave’s responsibilities, you may be held responsible for replacing the hardware. Again, please consult your partnership agreement for specifics.
